AS1530.1 Non Combustible Facade Cladding

There are  thousands of residential buildings that contain combustible aluminium cladding on exterior walls. This widely used material, made of polyethylene (PE), is more flammable than petrol and covers everything from apartment high-rises to hospitals.

This is what covered Grenfell Tower in London, England. In June 2017 the world watched in horror as flames devoured the high-rise.

In 2014 a small fire on the eighth floor balcony of an apartment in the Lacrosse complex in Melbourne’s Docklands precinct spread rapidly. Within just eight short minutes flames had spread to the 21st floor, thanks to combustible cladding on the outside.

Adding to the danger of combustible cladding is that it melts away from its base when alight, sending flaming debris raining down. This debris can start new ignitions elsewhere in the building, as it did with the Lacrosse blaze.

Melbourne fire authorities launched an investigation after the Docklands fire and test samples of the cladding used. However it was so flammable that the scientific research body had to suspend testing to avoid damaging its machines.

Jesmonite® AC730 is a polymer based, Grade 18 GRC which is AS1530.1 Classified as Non Combustible
