“These works are created over time, layers of oxides built up layer by layer, slowly developing under varying chemical processes, similar to developing a photograph. They attempt to capture both the elements they are made up from, the kinetic nature of the chemical process and the final imprint, representative of the passing of time.

The artist surrenders control of any figurative representation and instead allows marks to be ‘grown’, coalescing in pieces that reflect the landscape from which they are mined, and the people, past and present who work the earth.

It is the artist’s intention to choose the moment at which to ‘freeze’ the image, halting any further development, locking the works in the present, a type of stasis.”
